The best indoors activities for 3-5 years old in Lyon
Discover my list THE best activities to do in the wonderful Lyon with your toddler in winter or on a rainy day 🙂 I share the best places and everything you need to know about it.
Cultural activities
Activities at museums
Museum of Fine Arts
Are you sensitive to art and want to show beautiful works of arts to your children? The MBA offers group activities for little ones on different themes 🙂
Price: Price of entry to the museum + activity from €12 for a child and an accompanying person
Schedule: Sunday morning and Wednesday depending on availability (see directly on the MBA website).
Confluence Museum
By far my favorite, not only are the temporary exhibitions each more wonderful than the last but the permanent collection will satisfy young and old souls with stuffed animals of all sizes 🙂
The museum also offers activities for children, either on a theme while strolling through the museum or in an annex room dedicated to activities.
Price: €6 – €4 + entrance ticket €7-12 (child and accompanying person)
Schedule: weekends and Wednesdays depending on availability (see directly on the museum website).
Note: my daughter loved it, sensory and olfactory journey the activity was a hit!
Miniature Museum
The Miniature Museum in the center of Lyon is a museum that makes us dream, big or small! Between the miniature part which will amaze the little ones and the cinematographic part for the older ones.
Price: Full price: €15.90 and Child price: €10.90 (free from 0 to 3 years old)
Schedule: every day from 10 a.m. to 6-7 p.m.
This list is not exhaustive, there are indeed plenty of other museums accessible to children in Lyon 🙂
Municipal libraries
Not only are libraries financially accessible for everyone, but they are the place where we can take refuge in the winter. Of course you have to go to the children’s libraries so that they can find what they need there, like the library at “La Part Dieu” or even that of the 3rd district.
You will find bean bags and rugs so that your little ones can read quietly and choose their books.
In addition, most libraries regularly offer activities where you can register directly on the internet. Reading or nursery rhyme, little ones like 3-5 will find what they need 🙂
Price: free if subscribed
Schedule: Saturday mornings and Wednesday depending on availability (see directly on the Lyon municipal library website).
Theater
Theater is one of the activities that we don’t think about for little ones, and that’s wrong! In Lyon you can have a pleasant time at the Rikiki theater which offers many plays and located in the 6th arrondissement. Recently on the banks of the Rhône an incredible floating theater was created. Magnificent wooden theater, I still haven’t been there but it’s on my to do list!
Price: At the riki €7 child place €10 adult; Ile ô child price €9 and adult €16
Schedule: depends on the rooms, it is better to consult the sites: ile ô and Au Rikiki.
Note: Parts are generally half an hour
Sporting activities
Climbing
MROC- bouldering
Test the bouldering with your little ones! Mroc is the place for the little ones; There is one in Laennec and another in Part Dieu. There is a space for little ones who can try this practice and develop their pleasure of climbing in peace. The café/restaurant is also a gem!
Price: children under 3 years old do not pay except for the rental of shoes! For older children it’s 10€ entry and adults 17.5€ / session
Hours: open every day until late evening
Happik or Climb Up- wall
After bouldering, there is also the wall option for climbing. The air-conditioned rooms (Confluences and Gerland) and the Happik room offer options for the little ones.
Price: Happik 6€ for children under 3 years old and 15€/1 hour for older children except on Wednesdays where it’s 10€ for the climb up rooms it takes 10 to 15€.
Schedule: every day
Note: for enthusiasts, consider subscribing, it will be less expensive 🙂 They also offer courses for older children.
Pool
For the bravest and most sporty, bad weather does not prevent a good dive. In Lyon, some swimming pools have paddling pools and are indoors.
The closest to Lyon remains the public swimming pool of Vaise which offers bathing games for the little ones and an independent part with a paddling pool.
Price: adult and child place
Schedule: every day of the week including Sunday
Note: this activity is not for the ones sensitive to the cold because even if the water in the paddling pool is warmer than in the Olympic pool, it still remains lukewarm and you can quickly cool down.
Leisure
Cinemas
In Lyon, several arts cinemas offer screenings for little ones. In fact, they are adapted because the films offered are shorter, the noise is also less loud and the cinematic choice is adapted to their age. My favorites are Comedia which has a wide choice of films and which also has a very pleasant café if you feel like it before or after your session. Then the emblematic little cinema, la fourmi which lives up to its name and finally the musée des lumières.
Price: 3-5€ entry
Schedule: depends on the sessions but are generally offered on weekends and Wednesday afternoons
Note: Le musée des lumières offers cinema screenings followed by an “organic” snack (made up of juice and fruit) at the end of the film. It also has a small park next door.
Coffee shop
La Kfête au môme is much more than a café/restaurant but an association which offers activities such as capoeira and they offer activities for the school holidays. Nestled high on the slopes it is a place to save the parents.
For a more traditional coffe shop, I recommend Tandem. It has a space upstairs with books and games for the little ones, Tandem is the trendy café for young and old ! They also have a small food boutiques and an area selling magnificent artist creations ranging from a fanny pack to a magnificent painting. The hardest part is not buying everything!
Price: it all depends on your consumption. Kfête au môme is an association and to benefit from the coffee and games or activities that they offer, you must join the association
Hours: open every day
Aquarium
Finally, the Aquarium de Lyon is a must-see for young and old alike. You’ll be able to observe the different fish spread out on different levels according to their natural habitats. In the pit, you’ll also see a leopard shark, and finally, you’ll have the chance to touch some of the aquatic species. A favorite moment for the little ones!
The price of the entrance can varies from 8€ to 18€ depending on the ages and situation. You can reach the aquarium by public transportation with the bus, you can find more information directly here.
There you go, you know all about my favorite places and activities in the town of Les Gones 🙂 Tell me on the comments which favorite spots you have in winter with your family 😀
