How to have long and thick hair? The benefits of Ayurvedic hair powders

If you want to have long and thick hair you should try the Ayurvedic hair powders. It the best natural options to have healthy beautiful hair.

Why turn to Ayurvedic powders?

When you go to the hair care aisle of your local supermarket, you get lost because there are so many shampoos and treatments to choose from. Depending on the range and brand, they respond to certain problems. For example, combating dandruff or making hair less greasy …. But after just a few uses, the benefits remain limited. The list of ingredients goes on and on, and we end up doubting what we’re putting on our heads and what effect it has on our health.

It sometimes seems necessary to return to natural beauty sources. Hair powders are simple, natural wonders that are totally healthy and risk-free. They are suitable for all hair types: straight, curly or frizzy.

ayurvedic hair powders

Straight from India, these are blends of traditional plants and herbs. They have been used for centuries in the ancestral practice of Ayurveda. Translated from Sanskrit as “consciousness of life”, Ayurveda is a traditional form of healing medicine. It aims to balance body, mind and soul. Hair powders help (among other things) to restore balance to the hair according to its doshas (or vital energy).

In this article, we’ll discover their benefits and learn how to incorporate them into our hair care routine.

My favorite Ayurvedic hair powders and their benefits

Ayurvedic hair powders are natural powders carefully selected for their beneficial properties. Some even work on the skin! Here’s a list of my favorite powders:

Ayurvedic hair care powders:

  • Neem: Antibacterial and antifungal, neem helps fight dandruff and scalp infections. It also eliminates impurities and relieves itchy scalp. So, if you have this type of problem, this is the powder to turn to; you can get it here.
  • Amla: Rich in vitamin C, Amla stimulates hair growth, prevents hair loss and adds shine. If you want to have hair that looks like Indian hair, thick, shiny, long and full of vitality, turn to this powder! A real must-have in your bathroom!
  • Kapoor Kachili: Rich in antioxidants, this powder has the same benefits as Amla, while adding a pleasant scent to your hair.
  • Bitter orange peel powder: brings shine, softness, and suppleness to hair, with a sweet citrus fragrance.

Ayurvedic cleansing hair powders:

  • Shikakai: A gentle cleanser for the hair, shikakai gently removes impurities without stripping the scalp of its natural oils. It also promotes hair growth and strengthens the hair.
  • Reetha: Also known as soapnut, reetha is a natural cleanser that creates a light lather and effectively cleanses hair while respecting its natural moisture.

Hair powders outside ayurvedic practices:

  • Rhassoul: a volcanic clay harvested in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco. It is used as a gentle, purifying shampoo thanks to its exceptional ability to absorb impurities and grease while retaining natural moisture.
  • Marshmallow powder: ideal for sheathing, detangling and smoothing hair. It can be combined with other powders as a treatment, or used on its own as a moisturizing conditioner.

How to use Hair Powders :

  1. Preparing the mixture: Mix the ayurvedic powders of your choice with lukewarm water: 1 part powder to 3 parts warm water to obtain the consistency of yoghurt. You can also mix the powders with coconut oil or yoghurt for extra hydration (not recommended for hair powders that act as shampoos, such as reetha and shikakai).
  2. Application: Apply paste evenly to scalp and ends. Apply to dry hair, massaging gently to promote blood circulation.
  3. Application time: Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes to an hour to allow the nutrients to be absorbed by the hair and scalp. Leave-in time is usually specified on the packet 🙂 You can cover your hair with a hairnet to optimize its effectiveness and avoid getting any on your clothes.
  4. Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, making sure to remove all traces of powder.
  5. Moisturizing: Finish by applying a conditioner or hair oil to seal in moisture and remove stubborn powder residues (if you made your paste with water, you can skip this last step).
